Hong Kong MTR

Hong Kong MTR is the principal urban railway system serving Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and Lantau Island. Tickets and Fare Payment

Passengers can pay for journeys using an Octopus card, a Single Journey Ticket, an accepted QR code, or a supported contactless bank card at designated gates. Available payment methods may differ by station, railway service, and fare gate.

MTR fares are generally calculated according to the stations used and the route traveled. Airport Express, Light Rail, and East Rail Line First Class services may have separate fares or payment procedures.

Octopus Card

The Octopus card is a stored-value payment card accepted across the MTR, Airport Express, Light Rail, buses, ferries, shops, and other services throughout Hong Kong. Cards can be reloaded through supported station facilities and authorized channels.

Passenger Concessions

Eligible children, senior residents, students, and persons with disabilities may qualify for concessionary fares or government-supported transport schemes. Travelers should use the appropriate personalized Octopus card or present the documentation required for the applicable concession.

Airport Express

Operating Services

MTR trains operate daily, with first- and last-train times differing by line and station. Service frequencies vary according to the time of day, passenger demand, engineering work, special events, and operating conditions.

Passengers planning early-morning or late-night travel should check the first- and last-train information for the complete journey, including any required interchange. Entry gates may close shortly before the final scheduled train.

Passenger Rules and Safety

Dangerous goods, hazardous substances, and prohibited luggage are not allowed on railway premises. MTR personnel may refuse entry when an item could endanger passengers, disrupt railway operations, or cause serious inconvenience.

Eating and drinking are prohibited within paid areas, including platforms and trains. Passengers should queue properly, allow travelers to leave trains before boarding, keep doors and passageways clear, and follow staff instructions and safety announcements.
