LRT-2

LRT-2 is an urban railway line connecting the City of Manila with Antipolo City through major communities in eastern Metro Manila. Officially known as Light Rail Transit Line 2, it runs between Recto Station and Antipolo Station and serves residential, educational, commercial, and transport districts.

The line is managed, operated, and maintained by the Light Rail Transit Authority. Its 13 passenger stations provide access to buses, jeepneys, taxis, ride-hailing services, schools, shopping centers, offices, and other railway lines.

Overview

LRT-2 follows an east–west corridor from Recto in Manila to Antipolo in Rizal. Its stations are Recto, Legarda, Pureza, V. Mapa, J. Ruiz, Gilmore, Betty Go-Belmonte, Araneta Center–Cubao, Anonas, Katipunan, Santolan, Marikina–Pasig, and Antipolo.

Stations provide ticketing areas, automatic fare gates, security screening points, passenger platforms, directional signs, and access to surrounding roads and public transportation. Elevators, escalators, toilets, nursing areas, and facilities for passengers requiring assistance are available at selected stations.

The line supports travel to universities, residential communities, commercial districts, hospitals, shopping centers, and transport terminals. Passengers can transfer to LRT-1 through the connection between Recto and Doroteo Jose stations and reach MRT-3 through the Araneta Center–Cubao station area.

Stations and Passenger Facilities

LRT-2 operates 13 stations between Recto Station and Antipolo Station. Most of the line is elevated, while Katipunan Station is underground. Each station contains ticketing areas, automatic fare gates, security screening points, passenger platforms, directional signs, and access to surrounding roads and transportation services.

Passenger facilities may include elevators, escalators, toilets, nursing areas, priority lanes, tactile guides, Passenger Assistance Offices, and designated boarding areas. LRT-2 stations also have passenger cooling rooms for commuters who need relief from extreme heat or feel unwell.

Transfers to Other Railway Lines

Passengers can transfer between LRT-2 Recto Station and LRT-1 Doroteo Jose Station through a connecting elevated walkway. The two railway lines have separate paid areas, so passengers must exit one system and complete another fare transaction before entering the other.

LRT-2 Araneta Center–Cubao Station is located near MRT-3 Araneta Center–Cubao Station. Passengers must leave the station and walk through the surrounding commercial area before entering the other railway line.

Tickets and Fare Payment

Passengers may purchase a Single Journey Ticket for one trip or use a stored-value beep card. Tickets and card reloads are available through supported vending machines, Passenger Assistance Offices, and ticket counters.

Passengers using stored-value cards should maintain enough balance for the complete journey. Accepted coins, banknotes, and payment methods may differ among machines and station facilities.

Passenger Discounts

Qualified students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities may receive government-approved fare discounts. Eligible passengers should present a valid identification card at the Passenger Assistance Office or use an applicable concessionary beep card.

Operating Services

Trains operate daily between Recto Station and Antipolo Station. Service intervals vary according to passenger demand, available trains, maintenance activities, special schedules, and operating conditions.

First- and last-train times may change during holidays, scheduled maintenance, severe weather, and special events. Passengers traveling early in the morning or late in the evening should check current LRT-2 announcements before departure.

Passenger Rules and Security

Passengers and baggage are subject to security inspection before entering the paid area. Weapons, explosives, flammable substances, hazardous materials, and other prohibited items are not allowed inside stations or trains.

Travelers should keep entrances, stairways, escalators, platforms, aisles, and train doors clear. Smoking, littering, damaging railway property, entering restricted areas, and activities that disturb or endanger other passengers are prohibited.

Getting to and From Stations

Buses and Jeepneys

Buses, jeepneys, modern public utility vehicles, and other local transport services operate near most LRT-2 stations. Available routes connect residential communities, schools, commercial districts, transport terminals, and neighboring cities.

Taxis and Ride-Hailing Services

Taxis and ride-hailing vehicles may collect or drop off passengers near designated roadside areas, shopping centers, and transport bays. Pick-up arrangements depend on local traffic restrictions and the road layout surrounding each station.

Provincial and Regional Connections

Stations in Cubao, Marikina, and Antipolo provide access to bus terminals and transport services serving Rizal, eastern Metro Manila, and other destinations in Luzon. Passengers may need to walk or use a short local transport connection between the railway station and the terminal.
